Where grounded leadership meets courageous growth.

Hi, I’m Katie — a hospice and palliative care leader, nurse, writer, and believer in the quiet strength that comes from staying true to who you are — even when the world asks you to be something else.

I’ve spent my career in healthcare, leading through some of life’s most sacred, complex, and humbling moments.
From bedside nursing to directing hospice programs, I’ve learned that leadership isn’t just about results — it’s about relationships, resilience, and reflection.

But long before the titles and certifications, I was simply someone who cared deeply. About people. About purpose. About doing the right thing, even when it’s hard.

That commitment — to both excellence and empathy — has shaped not only how I lead, but how I live.

How Leaders on Edge Began

There was a season in my life where everything felt like too much. Work, family, expectations, change — all of it.
And yet, beneath the chaos, something inside me whispered: There’s more here if you’re willing to feel it.

So I started writing.
At first, it was just for me — late nights, coffee-fueled reflections, trying to make sense of the lessons life and leadership were handing me all at once.

Eventually, those pages became Leaders on Edge — a space for honest stories about what it really means to grow through the uncomfortable parts of leadership and life.

Because growth doesn’t always look graceful.
Sometimes, it looks like standing at the edge — shaky, unsure, but still choosing to take one small step forward.

My Leadership Framework: ROOTS & EDGE

Through my own journey, I created a personal framework that grounds my work and my coaching: ROOTS & EDGE.

  • ROOTS represent reflection, ownership, openness, tending, and steadiness — the grounding that keeps you connected to your purpose.

  • EDGE represents empathy, discipline, growth, and empowerment — the courage that pushes you to expand and evolve.

Together, they capture what leadership truly is:

The balance between staying grounded and daring to grow.

This framework has become the foundation for how I lead teams, support others, and write about leadership that feels human — not performative.

What You’ll Find Here

This space is part reflection journal, part leadership classroom, part community.
It’s where I share the lessons I’ve learned (and am still learning) about:

  • Authentic Leadership

  • Life & Loss

  • Growth & Grit

  • Healthcare Humanity

Each post is written with honesty and heart, blending professional insight with personal experience.
Because life and leadership aren’t separate — they shape each other.

A Little More About Me

Outside of work, I’m a mom, a partner, a forever learner, and a person who believes in finding meaning in the small, simple things.
Weekends often include family time, fresh air, coffee, and the occasional home project that reminds me growth isn’t just internal — it’s sometimes a can of paint and a little persistence.

I’ve learned that joy doesn’t always come from the big moments — it’s often found in the pauses between them.

Why I Write

I write because leadership can be lonely.
Because too many people carry the weight of doing good work without the space to talk about how heavy it sometimes feels.
And because I believe that vulnerability and strength aren’t opposites — they’re partners.

Through storytelling, I hope to help others see that growth isn’t something we chase — it’s something we live, one decision, one conversation, one season at a time.

Welcome to Leaders on Edge

If you’ve ever felt stretched thin but still determined to grow — you belong here.
This is your space to reflect, reconnect, and rediscover your edge.
